Pattern for the people – Adam Carpets
With its own dyehouse and design studio, Adam is a company dedicated to colour and design, and it used the strange times of the last two years to micro research consumer trends closely and carefully – people want colour and pattern.
“We have reached some interesting conclusions about consumer choice right now,” says Chris Adam. “There are a couple of themes that stand out in colour – one of which is the ’goes with grey’ palette that includes yellows, blues, teal, and pink. Then there is a definite move towards the retro colours alongside earth tones and neutrals.”
But Chris is also responding to another trend.
“People are wanting modern pattern – something that is
subtle but different and distinctive.”
So Solihull was shown a whole portfolio of new ideas from Adam Carpets themed along a geometric style and was taking soundings from visitors to refine the portfolio before launch later this summer.
The Company cheerfully admits that it has “quite a challenge” to reduce its current range of 80 colour possibilities down to the 10 which will be available at launch!
An interesting side story to this development is that the company is investing more time in creating graphics and roomset imagery to show geometrics at their best – conscious that sampling is always especially difficult for these patterns. And Adam will be working more to produce Internet content – especially on Instagram – to attract consumers and lead them to the retailers.
Elsewhere in the Adam portfolio, some of its especially popular collections have also benefited from closer colour consideration with natural and earthy hues adding two colours to the zig-zag stripe Flare collection and ten new colours in the flagship Fine Worcester Twist range.
And finally, don’t let moths spoil it all. Adam is emphasising that it’s one of the few manufacturers who are still licensed to treat wool carpets against damage by moth larvae. The company has its own dye house in Kidderminster and applies effective treatments to Woolmark Level Two. Ask your local sales rep for more details.
