The Global Flooring Alliance, a global organisation of flooring importers and distributors founded in 1989, has warned the flooring industry will need to “collaborate wisely and thoughtfully” to deal with the threats posed by rapidly rising inflation in concert and increasing geopolitical instability around the world.
The GFA closely monitors the latest geopolitical and market developments and organizes a virtual meeting every two months to discuss recent developments. Although members of the Global Flooring Alliance are still reporting positive sales figures, margins are under severe pressure.
Several manufacturers have implemented price increases, and others are likely to follow. The GFA warns that the market must not stagnate due to ill-considered price increases. The GFA is also closely monitoring interest rates, as they currently threaten to slow down the economy. Due to recent developments, GFA members are now cautious about precise forecasts for the second half of 2026. They expect a slowdown and possibly a decline in revenue compared to the same period last year.
The GFA views partnership and collaboration as the key of dealing with current market conditions. Maintain good relationships with suppliers and customers and share the burdens. Collaborate wisely and thoughtfully. Now more than ever, it is important to understand the importance of collaboration and put it into practice. A positive approach to the market in this way can take the sting out of the current challenges.
GFA Chairman Kilian Cathomas, who was recently re-elected during the General Assembly at the Domotex trade fair, emphasizes the importance of cooperation and partnership: “Inflation and rising costs worldwide, as well as the unpredictability of the geopolitical situation, calls for a prudent partnership with suppliers and customers. This entails not only supporting each other in terms of logistics and products, but above all exchanging information and sharing experiences, which is invaluable. Thanks to the sharing of information, the Global Flooring Alliance has been an important partner for the industry for over 30 years and offers valuable added value to its members.”
Next month, on June 6, the GFA will hold its General Assembly in Norway, where, among other things, the current geopolitical challenges and their implications for the market will be discussed in detail. Additionally, a proactive action plan will be explored to enable the GFA to respond positively to the current complex situation.
