To celebrate the start of Wool Month 2026, The Campaign for Wool returned to The Flooring Show in Harrogate this year with an entirely new Wool Trends Experience, designed to give retailers, interior designers and flooring specifiers an immersive view of the trends shaping the next generation of wool flooring.
Uniting over 15 of the UK’s leading flooring manufacturers, this unique showcase brought together more than 50 new-season carpet products in an immersive installation curated by Yorkshire-based textile colour and design consultant Joanna Ramsden of JR Studio.
At the heart of the space was the striking Wool Design Grid, where individual carpet samples were carefully juxtaposed to create a contemporary two-dimensional geometric installation. Rather than simply displaying samples, the concept allowed visitors to see, touch and walk across a curated landscape of wool flooring, bringing together different colours, textures, yarns and constructions. The Wool Trends Experience was designed as both an educational resource and a visual showcase.
Participating companies included: Alternative Flooring, Axminster, Brintons, Brockway, Cavalier, Cormar, Crucial Trading, Gaskell, Grosvenor Wilton, Manx, Penthouse, Tomkinson, Ulster Carpets, Victoria and Westex.
Precious Earth – the trend shaping the space
The Precious Earth concept reflects a growing design connection aligned with the natural world and highlights the importance of the land, water, and resources that sustain it. It pays homage to organic and agro-ecological farming processes.
Wool, as a natural ‘precious’ fibre, fits this concept perfectly, the campaigners say, providing an ideal foundation for this story. The various yarns and construction techniques behind each of the carpets, demonstrate how fibre selection, yarn engineering, pile and construction influence the appearance and performance of each finished product.
The colour palette takes its cues from the origins of land and water, with warm, mineral-inspired hues sitting alongside cooler, calming tones. Natural, undyed wool sits alongside richer colouration, from coffee, caramel, biscuit and milk chocolate through to spice, mustard, pink clay and botanical greens.
The result is a trend direction that feels grounded and contemporary, moving beyond the cooler grey neutrals of recent years towards warmer, more tactile and emotionally engaging interiors. Texture also plays a key role as part of this trend, with an eclectic mix of carpet constructions, including tufted (cut pile twists, cut pile Berbers), velvets and loops (loop pile Berber, level loops, 5/32 textured loops, 1/4 textured loops), woven constructions (Axminster and Wilton) and flatweaves, demonstrating the breadth of design possibilities available in wool.
A contemporary view of a natural fibre
The Wool Trends Experience reflects the Campaign for Wool’s continued commitment to championing wool as one of the world’s highest-performing natural fibres, and the installation demonstrates an important shift in the flooring market.
Lisa Conway, Marketing Manager, Brintons, said: “Brintons is proud to support the Campaign for Wool’s new Wool Trends Experience, showcasing the breadth of contemporary wool flooring. Our new Lumora collection, which features in the display, perfectly demonstrates how natural fibre, craftsmanship and sophisticated colour can come together to create a carpet that is both highly tactile and exceptionally soft and durable. Woven from 100% wool, it has been expertly crafted from a balanced blend of premium wool fibres.”~
Diane Almond from the Campaign for Wool says, “The Wool Trends Experience demonstrates just how much creativity, craftsmanship and technical innovation there is in today’s wool flooring market. From the fibre and yarn through to construction, colour and performance, we want visitors to understand the story behind the finished carpet.
