In the below article, Wilsons Underlays explains the product innovations it showcased at this year’s Flooring Show in Harrogate.
Each and every underlay from Wilsons Underlays is tested to International Standards or British Standards and are manufactured to meet todays’ requirements for comfort underfoot, minimised noise reductions with high dB ratings, and state of the art collections using memory foam technology for improved compression results for wear and comfort performance. In case you missed us at this year’s Harrogate Flooring Show, here’s the low down of how you felt the difference!
Of course, Plushwalk took centre stage, and visitors were able to physically feel the difference Plushwalk makes underfoot. Feeling is believing, and if you’d not experienced Plushwalk before, the reactions were priceless! We had a new addition to our interactive displays this year too – at our compression recovery demo unit, visitors could see for themselves how well Plushwalk performs under repeated compression – we can confirm that foot is still going even now! Plushwalk, is the ultimate underlay for luxury applications. Incorporating memory foam, it provides astonishing levels of comfort and softness underfoot – when tested to BS14499, it confirmed that it excels in improved compression recovering up to 92% when tested on 1000 impacts making it better for long term recovery on high traffic areas such as stairwells. Plushwalk also features a DPM membrane which acts as a spillage barrier between the sub floor and floor. Available in 8mm, 10mm and 12mm, it gives customers ultimate choice and flexibility.
And we can’t forget the underfloor heating underlay hero, ThermalStream! You were able to feel the incredible rate of heat transfer for yourself at our ThermalStream demo unit. ThermalStream our underfloor heating underlay is tested differently to show a 46oc heat transfer using an ISO 17025 approved method. Furthermore, ThermalStream now has a BFL S1 Classification to EN 13501-1: 2018 and is developed specifically for underfloor heating systems, incorporating flame retardant foam for improved safety. It features punched holes allowing a quicker heat transfer between the underfloor heating pad and your carpets. Most underlays for underfloor heating are thin (usually around 8mm thick) and sacrifice greatly on comfort underfoot. ThermalStream is 10mm thick and wins the battle using clever technology which gives your carpet the softness it deserves without sacrificing on heat loss.
Another newcomer to our showcase this year was our ToughStep display, showing visitors how ToughStep has been specifically engineered as a double-stick underlay for commercial applications, or for natural floor coverings such as sisal, where a firmer underlay is essential. Its structure is stronger and denser than standard foam underlays, providing greater stability and resilience for these types of applications. This delivers superior performance for natural carpets like sisal, which are rigid and have almost no elasticity compared to wool or synthetic carpets. A firmer underlay helps keep these floorcoverings stable and prevents rippling or distortion. In addition, ToughStep’s firmness allows office chairs, wheeled furniture, and wheelchairs to move with less resistance when installed using a double-stick method.
It was a pleasure to meet everyone, and we can’t wait for next year’s show!
