Hanson Plywood’s flagship flooring product, SP101, has been a staple of the market for more than 12 years, and while the product hasn’t changed in that time, the market and supply chain certainly have, Director Gary Scott tells The Stocklists. “It’s a product that’s made from sustainable and legal tropical hardwood, which is in very limited supply owing to regulations protecting the forestry of Indonesia.”
That emphasis on responsibility and sustainability characterised Hanson’s presence at The Flooring Show this year, as Gary explains the supply of raw materials for the company’s flooring products is strictly controlled. The amount of logging allowed by Indonesia is government-regulated and has significantly reduced over the years. “There’s not many players left,” Gary says, “so those that are, need to be respected and valued”
With all these complex supply chain considerations in mind, it’s challenging for Hanson to provide a consistent product that’s environmentally and technically assured and fit for purpose. Fortunately, the company got that task right the first time around. The high-quality plywood flooring panel was developed over a decade ago in consultation with industry experts including; the CFA, FITA, NICF, glue and screed manufacturers, as well as LVT and safety flooring suppliers. This extensive process of research and development was acknowledged and welcomed by the flooring trade, and SP101 remains a gold standard product for subfloors today, Gary says. “The fact that it is so widely approved, accepted and preferred in this industry is a testament to the fact we got it right.”
