Recently released data from the ONS has shown that sales of UK-manufactured carpets and rugs fell in 2024 to £767.9m, from £798.3m in 2023. This fall represents the first decline in the figure for 3 years, a drop of 3.8%. The previous year saw the highest turnover in this category on record, growing from £784.7m in 2022 and £716.4m in 2021.
Although the 2024 figures are nowhere near as low as 2020’s turnover of just £587.6m, they may represent some level of normalisation following the relative boom of the post-COVID period, while also reflecting many of the global economic challenges UK manufacturers contended with during this period.
