Scottish flooring retailer sees sharp decline in profits

J&W Carpets, which describes itself as Scotland’s largest flooring discounter, announced a significant drop in profits for the year ended 31 March 2025 in recent filings. Profit before tax declined to £102,785, down from £948,587 in the previous period.

Citing “challenging” trading conditions, the company also pointed to increasing staff costs and overheads as contributing factors to its weaker performance. It notes that going forward, the company’s principal risks and uncertainties are lowered consumer confidence, weakness of the pound against the euro and increasing overheads. Directors are confident, however, that with actions and strategies in place, the company should be able to “mitigate threats as they arise”.
