The Acumen acts fast on faults
The Acumen have acted fast to address a gap in the provision of inspection services in the flooring trade and now have a network across the UK to help manufacturers and retailers rectify faults and keep consumers satisfied with their floors.
The business was born in July 2022 and backed by two experts in the sector, Paul McRoberts and Warren Todd who have over 65 years’ experience in the industry.
“Many manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors were
left without inspection services when there was a sudden
reduction in the market capacity for manufacturing inspection services. We were then approached by a number of companies asking if we could help,” says Paul. “We had and still have a philosophy of repair rather than replace where we can, and if a
fault or issue could be rectified on the first visit then we would go ahead and just get it done. Regardless of who was at fault.”
“Just this week I visited a consumer who had complained
that his carpet was delaminating and rucking up, said Paul.
“The likely cause was a spill. But the consumer said that there
was no spill, the fitter said there definitely was and the retailer
said it was a manufacturing fault. The manufacturer sent us in and we were able to recondition the backing, re-bond the carpet to the backing and re-fit. All included in the inspection fee.”
The Acumen now has a network of 12 sub-contracted surveyors around the country and in addition to manufacturer’s inspections, they are trialling a smooth flooring pre-installation survey, where the suitability of the sub-floor is tested and they give recommendations to avoid some of the most common issues that are due to sub-floor unevenness and moisture issues.
The Acumen is also having a good level of success with their dispute resolution service. This is where all parties, manufacturer, retailer , fitter and customer enter an agreement to abide by The Acumen’s report and findings. The cost of the report is split by all parties.
