Grass is greener for growth
The trend towards artificial turf in the UK has been building for the last five years but there is no doubt that pandemic preoccupations with investing in your own personal living space has boosted consumer demand. Artificial grass is growing!
Reports from key retailers in the sector cite sales increases from 50% to 400% during the lockdown periods of 2020 and 2021 against a background of a 77% increase in garden spending by homeowners according to the Nationwide building society.
Home interiors magazines have been buzzing about “garden rooms” and the related “broken plan gardens” – both of which require lawn areas to be more managed and artificial grass has often been the specification of choice to develop them.
And you have commentators like the RHS forecasting that artificial grass will be more popular as climate change with hot dry summers and stormy deluges throughout the year have made traditional lawns more difficult to maintain. Little wonder that Google saw a 175% jump in web searches for “artificial grass” this time last year!
Suppliers to the UK market have risen to the challenge with innovation and increased choice, streamlining their offers and adding sustainable products to the mix.
“Artificial grass has gained an enormous growth in popularity over the recent years. Where a few years ago people didn’t know that artificial grass could be the ‘perfect’ solution for their garden, they are now becoming much more demanding regarding both the look and performance of their grass,” says the specialists at
Condor Grass.

After a successful grass season and multiple POS stand sales in 2021, Kellars is re-branding its artificial grass as ‘Novoturf’ for 2022 and the company is excited to be introducing new point of sale for Novoturf to the market and other innovations.

“We will be introducing multiple ranges of grass to our product portfolio this year, as well as our Eco-Friendly ‘eco-turf’ product,” says Mike Davey of Kellars. “The recyclable product will certainly be a positive addition to the industry and Kellars.

Over the years,
Lano Carpets has earned its spurs as a reliable and high-quality supplier of artificial grass. In the spotlight this season is the
Green12345 and the Enso collection.

Lano’s Green12345 collection offers versatile solutions
Green12345 is the flagship collection, comprising eight stunning qualities in a variety of weights and pile heights. Five different widths from one to five metres plus pre-cut rolls are available alongside a set of accessories to create a “simple and easy” one-stop package for lawn installation.
Lano’s Enso collection contains 100% efficiently recyclable landscaping qualities. The Enso recycling process is easier, more effective, more affordable and guarantees to yield in a higher-grade recycled end-product.
Parq is the grass division of Dutch carpet manufacturer Betap and in 2021 launched their first collection designed solely for the UK. The range was an enormous success in what was a roller coaster period for the artificial grass market.
In reaction to the last two extraordinary years of supply chain issues and a volatile demand trend, Parq has created a core collection that will have strong service levels supplemented by bespoke ranges to fulfil customer’s needs.
“Artificial grass sales are expected to expand with a market mix of new consumers, the continued trend for outdoor living and replacement lawns for early adopters,” says Andrew Bramall, R&D Manager UK.
“The recent house market boom is also a positive for the soft landscape sector. There is evidence that expenditure on gardens has an 18-month lag after a house move and our products and brand are well positioned to benefit from this,” he added.
Parq recently showed at the international sports and leisure show, FSB in Cologne where they showcased their new developments that centred around wider gauges, darker greens and multi-directional blades. “Our UK customers also loved our Cornwall range with it’s darker shade and 5 metre wide option. This 40mm structure is a perfect all-rounder,” said Andrew.
As well as the core dozen offering, Parq has developed three specialist products; Protector, a fire retardant Cfl grass, Everglade, a recyclable eco product and Pet Premium 38 which is a range developed to wash through pet deposits.
