Olivia Bowen creates a contemporary kitchen with Karndean Designflooring
TV personalities Olivia and Alex Bowen, who first met on reality show Love Island, moved into their Essex house earlier this year after falling in love with the luxurious space on offer and they have wasted no time in creating a stunning contemporary home with bags of glamour.
Over six weeks, a team of builders has created a stunning sociable kitchen with an understated beach house vibe in calming tones of cream and grey. One wall has been opened out to the garden patio with extensive sliding doors for an indoors-outdoors feel, increasing the natural light that floods into the open plan space and highlighting the intricate grain details and gently rustic appearance of the Coastal Sawn Oak flooring from Karndean’s Knight Tile collection.
As Olivia explained: “Karndean was always my first choice for luxury vinyl flooring. It was so hard to choose our favourite design but in the end we chose Coastal Sawn Oak from the Knight Tile range. We considered laying the flooring vertical but we just loved the herringbone pattern!”
Light grey Shaker style kitchen units and a stunning double butler sink give a traditional country look with a contemporary twist and have been topped with Bianco Carrera quartz marble worksurfaces which offer an opulent yet practical surface. A central island features the hob and a breakfast bar so that Olivia can chat to her guests while she cooks.
In the sitting area, a comfy sofa has been piled with cushions and throws for an informal space to chill out and socialise while a large dining table has been sited next to the patio doors and can comfortably seat eight for dinner. Here Olivia has added an interesting industrial touch with a large mirror and tripod spotlight lamp.

The British Furniture Confederation (BFC), the public affairs umbrella body of furniture and beds, furnishings and flooring sector trade associations, has unveiled its new Plan for Growth. The document is said to support BFC’s advocacy across four key pillars: skills and education; trade and exports; standards and regulations; and the environment and circular economy. It has been developed over the past few months, the organisation says, evolving from a combination of position papers written by the associations’ executives and a comprehensive survey of their collective members.
Consumer card spending grew 1.0% year-on-year in February – lower than January’s 1.9% increase and less than the latest CPIH inflation rate of 3.9%, according to recent figures reported by Barclays. In anticipation of higher bills, consumers are said to be cutting back on essential outgoings, but still prioritising discretionary purchases, contributing to an uptick in optimism in the health of personal and household finances.
