Confirming a slow start to the year across all flooring sectors, imports into the UK declined 6.8% to £115m in January compared to 2023.
Carpet imports declined 5.5% according to HM Revenue & Customs figures compiled by The Furnishing Report. This figure highlights a continuing shift away from Europe, notably a 27% fall in the value of incoming goods from the Netherlands while Turkey's sales into the UK were up 26%.
Other flooring sectors saw greater import declines with wood flooring down 12% and vinyl down 7.9%.
