Housing projects boosted by carpet “waste”
Greendale Carpets have formed a partnership with The Salvation Army to utilise the obsolete carpet in their warehouse in housing projects throughout the UK.
Eamonn Prescott, Chief Executive of Greendale):
“It’s become increasingly important to recycle and reuse where
we can. Some of our obsolete carpet may have gone to landfill,
but by partnering with The Salvation Army, we have found an
outlet that will take these carpets and utilise them for those
in need, the most vulnerable in our society.
Richard Shea, Service Development Manager at SATCoL,
The Salvation Army’s Trading arm who run the projects, said:
"Our partnership with Greendale Carpets has given new life to
carpet that would traditionally be seen as waste. SATCoL have
found a way to repurpose offcuts and make them accessible to everyone. It’s a win-win for the industry, people and the planet,
I am excited to see how this grows in the future."
The plan is for carpet to be delivered on a regular basis to SATCoL
donation centres around the UK. The fi rst delivery of carpets has
already been made, delivered by Eamonn in person.
By the end of 2023, Greendale estimate they will have diverted over
10 tonnes of material from landfill to recycling/reuse projects.
