Flooring sales bounce back in May
More signs of retail recovery in flooring comes with the latest report from the Office for National Statistics which show sales up 4.7% over last month.
ONS data shows floorcovering retail sales increased month-on-month, by 4.7% during May to £219.7m from £209.7m. Compared to the same time last year, sales were up 1.3%.
Flooring is outperforming the furniture sector which showed a 3.7% increase during May but compared to this time last year, the sector is down 7.2%.
Across all categories, retail sales volumes rose by 2.9% in May 2024, following a fall of 1.8% in April 2024 (revised from a fall of 2.3%). Sales volumes rose across most sectors, with clothing retailers and furniture stores rebounding following poor weather in April, said analysts.
