Double digit growth for flooring retail in 2021
Flooring retailers saw double-digit growth in 2021 despite lockdowns in the first quarter of the year as consumers switched back to physical stores and invested in their homes.
Research by The Furnishing Report says the sector's sales grew to £9 billion in 2021, up nearly a third on the previous year with more than 80% of those purchases in-store. Internet sales were a third lower, reflecting the return to face-to-face retailing, but online was still 73% ahead of pre-pandemic levels.
The Furnishing Report says double-digit increases were seen across beds and carpets between October and December on a year-over-year basis with more modest single-digit rises for cabinet and upholstery.
