The relatively short-lived burst of summer that finally got going in late July and August appears to have blunted sales for furniture and flooring.
Figures in from Barlcays show that the number of in-store debit and credit card sales were down 4% in August for the furnishing sector compared to this time last year.
The value of those sales showed a more significant drop at nearly double that rate (7.8%) which suggests the sales that were being made were at lower prices.
By contrast, garden centres were up!
