The decline in carpets imports into the UK slowed again for October, but remains 8% below the figures for the same time last year.
HMRC data compiled by The Furnishing Report showed imports were down 7.9% for October, compared to a fall of 8.9% in September and 19% in August.
The value of those imports was £80m – up 8.2% on the same time last year which shows the impact of price inflation that is more than compensating for the lower volumes.
Belgium, usually the biggest exporter to UK, is still performing poorly with volumes down 16.5% in October, while volumes were up from the Netherlands (+7.9%) and Turkey (+1.2%).
