Carpet import revival reverses
Carpet imports declined in November, reversing a brief recovery seen in October as the busiest period for sales got underway.
Prior to October's promising increase of nearly 4%, carpet imports into the UK has seen four months of significant slump due to weak demand, especially from Europe.
However, according to the latest data from HM Revenue & Customs compiled by The Furnishing Report, volumes of carpet were down again, over 3% year-on-year, in November.
This statistic masks a much poorer performance from Europe with imports down 27% from the Netherlands and 13% from Belgium while Turkey continued its recent growth since the summer, up 36% in November and India up 16%.
In a full year to date, overall carpet imports into the UK are down 5%.
