Balta grows but margins squeezed
European manufacturer Balta Group grew its business by 11% in the first quarter of 2022 but says margins are squeezed and more price increases are on the way.
Balta Group also said it would re-brand with a name change later this year following the sale its Blata brand, rugs, residential polypropylene and non-woven business units to Victoria in a transaction that was finalised on April 4.
Cyrille Ragoucy, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Balta Group nv said, “2022 marks a new important chapter in the history of Balta with the closing of the transaction with Victoria PLC and transformation of Balta Group nv into a more focused and resilient business.
"During Q1, we experienced a recovery of our commercial business with a strong order book conversion to sales as COVID-19 restrictions eased, while the results of our Residential PA business suffered from the significant headwinds caused by the unprecedented and sudden costs increases which require further commercial action in Q2,” he said.
Commercial flooring is now 70% of the group's business and grews sales by 16% in the first quarter and increase profits 9% year-on-year. Its residential business reported a loss of €1m compared to profits of €2.6m this time last year.
