A bloomin’ good idea

Flower power was at the centre of Adam Carpet’s presentation in Solihull with a fine bunch of chrysanthemums to welcome visitors and a unique story to tell about their impact on wool carpet performance.
The flower heads of chrysanthemums kill bugs – specifically carpet moths. And only Adam has been able to harness their full potential with a “total insect protection” programme that saves wool fibre from attack.
“This is a very big deal for Adam – putting us in a unique position to protect carpet from the increasing threat of damage by moth larvae which is an issue that is becoming more widespread in many more
parts of the country,” says Chris Adam, managing director.
At its factory in Kidderminster, Adam has its own dyehouse and colours all of its plain yarns itself. At the end of the process, they apply the insect protection treatment, based on nature’s own solution found in the chrysanthemum flowers.

Adam applies the insect protection treatment very carefully to meet the industry gold standard Woolmark Level Two and the company are the only manufacturer in the UK able to use the best dye bath application method to ensure that all of the wool and nylon receives a deep and
even coating.

Fine loop finesse
Adam previewed its first residential wool loop carpet and did so in some style.
Fine Loop, taking its cue from Adam’s iconic Fine Worcester Twist, is a distinctive tenth gauge in premium New Zealand wool. Clever construction means there are two interesting options – a two-colour version where a 3-ply loop is combined with a 2-ply secondary colour, and also a three-colour combination which gives an attractive heathered style effect.
The company is finaliseing the colour mix and expects to showcase three 2-colour options and three 3-colour options to present at The Flooring Show in Harrogate in September.

The company’s carpets are now labelled to inform consumers of this vital protection and retailers can give customers an informative flyer on this performance attribute – especially those householders who have already experienced moth issues.
